Triangulation in the Martial Science

How to do Triangulation in the Martial Arts

Triangulation is a Ninjitsu Body Movement technique that allows you to evade an incoming attack while still getting yourself into a position to attack yourself by moving forward at an angle.

How to perform Triangulation:

First draw a triangle in front of you, with you being the TIP and the lines going forward on each side of the attacker

If you have a centerline attack meaning an attack coming straight in at you, you will step forward to the right or left on that line of the triangle.

This movement brings you closer to the attacker and allows a better position to attack

You can also perform this technique by doing the opposite – Moving away from attacker on those angles

Applications:

  • Moving out of centerline attacks, while moving forward at an angle
  • Moving away from centerline of attack at an angle
  • Move close to targets by zigzaging from objects to objects for example in a military situation where there is oncoming fire coming at you, moving from one building for cover to another at the right and left angles.
